The Studio has been a very busy one in 2019, not just fine art production (please go to http://janasiebers.wordpress.com for more images and news). The handmade card production has increased year by year so much that shows of handmade cards at fairs and artisan markets have run alongside studio activities throughout this year and are booked throughout the whole of next year .
Making collage continues to be a a great addition to all of the studio work, because it brings in a new audience appealing across the generations and to folk from all walks of life. To get such positive feedback from the public is vital and energizing. It is hugely satisfying to be making with a process that incorporates so much up cycling and recycling of materials.
It continues to be insanely long hours in the studio, but so much fun and creativity.Merry Christmas everyone here’s to more collage making into the 2020’s!
Throughout the Winter and into the Spring of 2018 the fine art studio practice has been intense with studio commissions, and developing new paintings and drawings. There is something so invigorating about making collage cards it always seems to bring in new combinations of colours, textures and materials. The collage cards are mini works of art in their own right, and they have their own following of collectors.
I have featured new collages from the theme I call “Tapestry” but I have made more and so have added (see the header above) some new pages, ” Cherry Blossom Collage”, “Butterfly Veil” and “Feeling for Vintage” all of which contains new work.

The last quarter of the year is the peak of activity for attending Christmas Art and Craft Fairs, but the creating and making is happening way in advance, it feels as though Christmas is in the air for along time in the collage studio !. This is a small selection of the many hundreds of Christmas cards I have created this year . It is as always absorbing fun making collage cards and a process that is true re cycle and up cycle regeneration. The skill is in bringing together mixed media/materials into a cohesive new piece of work, always a challenge and a joy!- Looking forward to the New Year and new venues to attend with new work…..
A light gasp went up in the collage studio when a quick stock take of supplies gave way to the fact that first one thousandth collage card had been made at some point in February of this year……..more have been made since so we are on track for the next thousandth….the Spring Craft fairs went by in the usual whirled activity that fairs bring about..the next fair is scheduled at Grimes Thorpe Castle, Lincolnshire. The year has seen an increasing audience for the cards, as I have attended Fairs at Cathedrals, Mansions ( National Trust) ,Galleries, Market Squares and Festivals to set up the stall and the bunting and meet all of the customers. A big thank you to all of the encouragement and support from all kinds of folk. It has been a real joy to meet and talk with people who are interested and value hand made work. Welcome to the newest site created by Jana . The aim of creating “Collage Cards by Jana” is to showcase the collage cards that I have been making for years and selling during one man and group exhibitions. The cards have become so successful and the response from the public has been so encouraging that it feels the right time to develop them further. The process has evolved from making collages with handmade papers and natural objects into themed collections ( please check out the headers above which feature samples from different themed collections ). There is a joy and spontaneity when working this way, as every card is unique and it definitely requires all the skills of composition, colour co-ordination and design. There is also an element of random selection combined with the fun of finding images and materials to use and recycle, the skill is to assemble all of these elements to make it all work…
So far this year ( and it is only February!) I have been invited to show at a real variety of Festivals, Fairs and Galleries. This blog will advertise all of them throughout the year. The production of the cards is ongoing and there is ample room on this blog to show samples of each of the new collections as they are made. It is fun and fast paced as the cars are made and then sold !! As a Fine Artist working on Oil paintings and making drawings all of the time in a very considered approach, working this way adds buzz and zest to the studio….expect to see lots of work……..
Please do check out the work on the Fine Art site- http://janasiebers.wordpress.com it is a real buzz to read all of your comments .
